Your Sacred Libido/Claiming the Keys to Your Queendom
Hey Beautiful!
We commonly hear libido described as “sex drive” or “the urge to have sexual intercourse” but there’s sooo much more to the story of turn on.
Libido is your creative life force energy; your zest for life. And a thriving libido is central to your wellbeing whether you’re interested in having sexual partners or not.
In Chinese medicine libido is called Jing and it’s considered to be one of the three treasures of life.
In TCM when your Jing is depleted it’s a red flag. Depleted Jing makes us more susceptible to disease, degeneration and general aging.
In our modern lifestyle it’s very easy to leak Jing. That leaves us feeling depleted, uninspired and sets the stage for a whole host of health problems.
Stress and inflammation are probably the top culprits of depleted Jing.
So how do we preserve and cultivate this treasure of zest and vitality? This may come as a surprise but it’s not about boosting or revving up anything.
The roots of our libido or Jing are our Kidneys. Kidneys are Yin organs; they’re of the water element.
Chinese medicine offers many tonic herbs that can help replenish Kidney energy and Jing but for those to be truly effective lifestyle changes need to be part of the program as well.
And there are ancient Taoist sexual yoga practices (like The Jade Egg Practice) that work really well here.
But how we approach these practices really matters.
We need a reframe on what culture tells us about libido and sexuality. Instead of getting fired up or amped up, we need more rest, calm and flow. We need more sensual pleasure and more reverence for our sacred libido and the sacred vessels of our bodies.
We need practices that soothe the nervous system and allow the body time and space to heal from the effects of stress, past wounds and trauma. Only then can we replenish our reserves slowly and steadily and reclaim our treasure of sustainable Jing and sexy radiant health.
I do believe that our Jing is our personal fountain of youth and claiming it hands us the keys to our Queendom.
Like Dr. Christiane Northrup says in her book Goddesses Never Age; “You’re sitting on a throne of gold. It’s your erotic anatomy.”
