Welcome to Sacred Sensual Movement (SSM)!
Welcome, I’m so honored to share this practice with you!
My intention with SSM is to support you in creating new pathways for pleasure.
But before we dive into that, I’d like to start out with a little about me, to give you some context. This work can be deep and super vulnerable and I feel it’s my responsibility to let you know who’s guiding you.
I’m Dianne, I’m a cis, white, heterosexual able-bodied woman, and I’ve have experienced all of the privilege that comes with those things. I’m committed to learning how to create safer and more inclusive spaces so feedback is always and truly welcome.
In astrology language, I’ve got a lot Scorpio to me that feels like a love of depth, passion and for the erotic. I’ve also got a lot of Libra in my chart, which feels to me like a love for fairness, beauty, balance and all things Venus. I also have a strong Saturn which I feel expresses as a love for structure and strong containers. And paradoxically I have a strong Neptune; which I feel as a love for the mystical, the magical, a deep yearning for merging and connection. I love floating in the Sea of Love.
SSM was born out of my own healing journey and my desire to experience more joy, passion and more sensual pleasure in my life. I had a complete meltdown at 40 when I entered menopause and that kicked off my healing journey into pleasure.
What I found to be true is that pleasure, sensuality, passion, and embodiment are such great concepts, and something that I think so many people crave, and yet there can be formidable obstacles to experiencing these things.
What I also found to be true, is that when we just stay on the level of concept, nothing really changes.
The patterns that many of us have for resisting pleasure run deep. I’m testament to that! These obstacles can present as an addiction to negative reinforcement; thinking we have to suffer in order to earn pleasure, or that we have to constantly be on guard, that it’s not safe to relax and feel pleasure. Given the cultural context and experiences many of us have had, that totally makes sense.
My belief is that if our bodies are creating blocks to pleasure, firstly, that makes sense, there’s a good reason, and secondly that it’s via the body we can heal and make different choices. I feel that by honoring the body as sacred and moving in ways our bodies are designed to move we can set ourselves free.
My intention for sharing this practice with you is to offer support for you to somatically explore new pathways through sensual movement.
Why Sacred?
I believe that our bodies are a sacred portal to experiencing the divine. This has been an ever unfolding journey for me but I’ve found that when we honor the body as sacred, healing and magic happen. We connect to our deepest wisdom and receive downloads.
Why Sensual?
The moves we do in SSM are sensual; circuitous fluid, spiral and non linear in nature. And they are sourced from the pelvis. This type of movement activates a healing essence in you, your fluid power.
In SSM we enter into the water element. When we move in flow, deep healing can happen.
Instead of a workout I like to think of this as a work in.
In SSM I’ll be inviting you on a journey into Yin so you can go deep inside, so you can feel what’s really true for you. What’s really going on. And it’s been my experience that what we can feel, we can heal.
When we move this way, emotions rise up, I invite you to ride them like a wave so you can harness their power. So often our external world supports us in getting rid of stuff, getting over stuff, purging, detoxing, etc, and there’s definitely value to all of those things. But here I invite you to dive in instead, to feel and move. To pull your energy in rather than direct it out. So you can build power. Yin power.
In SSM I invite you to connect with your erotic anatomy I know that’s kind of edgy, but hang in there with me. One thing I’ve discovered is that when we connect with our erotic anatomy through movement, deep healing can happen. Your sexual energy is magical. It’s alchemical. It has an intelligence. A healing elixir.
Important to note that here we connect with and activate your sexual energy in a gentle, sustainable way so that over time you can offer your body new pathways in the direction of pleasure. The idea is to provide a space to feel more pleasure and hold more pleasure in your system.
All that said, this is a great space to practice connecting with your own internal visceral consent.
I want you to really tune into whether your body is a true yes or a no. or a maybe. And this can shift at any moment. This internal navigation is your body talking and your body speaks in the language of sensation.
I think every human I know has been conditioned to override their no. This is an opportunity to shift that.
As you move through the practice, I invite you to celebrate your body’s yes and your sense of openness, but just as important, I invite you to celebrate your body’s no. If you feel a sense of contraction around any invite, get curious, listen, honor. Pat yourself on the back! When you really listen to your body’s no, you send signals of safety and build trust in yourself in a whole new way, which sets the stage for creating new pathways for pleasure.
OK, let’s talk about class structure.
An SSM session is structured in four basic parts:
Warm up so that you can ground and land in your space (standing).
An exploration of Dynamic Pelvic Anatomy. Here we’ll explore the 3 keys to unlock your pelvis in motion, how to activate your amazing clitoris in a movement practice, and how to connect with and initiate your movement from your vagina.
Then, cameras off, We put these concepts into action with sensual movement. I’ll guide you through a series of sensual movement dives on all fours (table/or Cat/Cow position). If you have wrist sensitivity you can always come onto your forearms or even do this lying down instead. This all fours position is nice because it allows us to be grounded but also allows a lot of possibilities for movement.
Rest and integrate
Cameras back on
Check in and close
What may come up:
Creating new pathways for pleasure is not always completely pleasurable.
A few things you may experience:
You may get a little nauseous. That’s totally normal it’s a sign that something is moving. If that happens, slow down the movement, make the movement smaller, find a way to move that feels better.
You may feel dizzy, again, a sign that stuff is moving. You can always stop and take a break.
You may start to shake, again totally natural when moving energy, allow it to happen as long as you can stay present. If it feels too intense, you can always stop in child’s pose or fetal position.
Prior to Class :
Set up your space with a yoga mat and a couple of blankets. If you’re not comfortable on the floor and need a chair, have that handy.
Wear movement friendly clothes. Best to remove jewelry.
Eat lightly but don’t come hungry.
Pee before class. I know that sounds obvious, but we’ll be in the water element:)
If you have a Jade Egg practice and want to wear your egg to class that’s awesome, come with egg inserted.
You may want to have a silk scarf or blindfold handy if that speaks to you. I love practicing with my silk bandana but if that makes you uncomfortable, don’t do it.
Ok, I guess that’s all!
I can’t wait to move with you!
